Danbury, CT
Union Carbide's 1.5
million-square-foot corporate headquarters is constructed around a 2,400-car
central core parking garage built of pre-stressed and cast-in-place concrete.
The four-level, one million-square-foot parking garage services 16 office pods
that project out from the center core. The parking facility's ramp system is
comparable in scale and construction to that of an elevated highway interchange.
Since 1985, Hoffmann Architects has designed and managed numerous projects at
the garage, ramp and roadways to correct extensive deterioration, waterproofing
and rustproofing deficiencies, spalling and delamination of the concrete deck
and spalling of the bents supporting the roadway. The firm has designed and
directed multiple roof and window rehabilitation projects for the corporate
facility. This continuity of experience enables Hoffmann Architects to resolve
rehabilitation challenges at this unique structure, while minimizing the visual
sense of a building under constant construction, a key client objective. |
