Unique/Historic Structures Restoration Projects

Rockefeller Center
Restoration Master Plan and Building Envelope Restoration
New York, NY

To manage the ongoing maintenance and multi-faceted rehabilitation of this historic, 19-building, 22-acre urban complex, Hoffmann Architects developed an award-winning master plan. The firm’s plan helped Rockefeller Center Management Corporation meet tenant needs and comply with strict city preservation agency requirements for this National Historic Landmark, which dates back to 1931. Work included façade and curtain wall restoration, roof replacements and waterproofing. The firm has provided rehabilitative design through construction administration services for many of these restoration efforts, including: roof restoration for 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 50 Rockefeller Plaza, 70 Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City Music Hall, Time-Life Building, and the Simon & Schuster Building; and façade restoration for the Exxon Building, GE (RCA) Building, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, International Building, Ten Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City Music Hall and the Simon & Schuster Building. Other work at Rockefeller Center includes restoration of the carved limestone panels that flank the entrances to the GE (RCA) Building and rehabilitation of the world-famous plaza and skating rink in front of the building.
